Psy Brings 'Gangnam Style' Back to Gangnam for the 2026 Gangnam Festival

Psy will close the 2026 Gangnam Festival on Oct. 4, performing "Gangnam Style" a few blocks from the district that inspired it. The Gangnam-gu Office is turning Dosan-daero, the boulevard running through Cheongdam-dong and Apgujeong-dong, into a two-day stage for its 15th annual festival, Oct. 3 to 4.

The program opens Saturday with a roughly one-kilometer street parade from Cheongdam Intersection to Dosan Park Intersection, 4 to 9 p.m., alongside fashion, beauty and food events along the boulevard. The festival closes Sunday with a K-pop concert in front of Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul on Dosan-daero, 6 to 9 p.m., featuring KiiiKiii, ZeroBaseOne and Lun8 ahead of Psy's closing set, plus a separate family concert. Admission is free, with passes distributed through ticketing partners including Korvia, whose Fall 2026 events page lists the concert among offerings aimed partly at visiting fans. The Gangnam-gu Office expects at least 30,000 visitors over the two days, according to The Korea Herald.

Gangnam-gu Mayor Kim Hyeon-ki laid out the ambition behind the booking at a briefing at Seoul City Hall, telling reporters, "We want to grow it until people think of Gangnam when they think of a K-festival," per The Korea Herald. Putting Psy on a stage steps from Dosan Park turns a song title into a tourism pitch, with the district government treating the 2012 hit as a marketing asset rather than a one-off nostalgia booking.

That framing sits oddly against the song's own history. "Gangnam Style" was written as satire, aimed at Korea's status-obsessed nouveau riche performing a wealthy "Gangnam" lifestyle they did not actually live, a reading Psy himself has echoed in describing the track as a send-up of people who claim Gangnam pretensions. A district now inviting the world to its streets under that song's banner is embracing the very image the lyrics were mocking.

It is also not the district's first Psy homecoming. Billboard reported that Psy first performed "Gangnam Style" inside Gangnam back in 2014, at a pre-dawn concert tied to the World Cup near COEX Mall that drew roughly 30,000 people through the night. He held back the premiere of his new single "Hangover," with Snoop Dogg, at that show, deciding the song did not fit the mood of a World Cup rally. Twelve years later, Dosan-daero gets the version he saved for the occasion.
