Booking.com Cleanliness Scores: Filtering Seoul Stays
A walkthrough of Booking.com's review-score filter and cleanliness subscore, cross-checked against TripAdvisor, Agoda, Google Maps and Hotels.com, with Long Weekend Haus DDP's own rating record as a comparison point.
Published
To filter out Seoul stays with cleanliness complaints on Booking.com, set the search page's Review score filter to Very Good (8+) or higher, then open each listing's review breakdown and check the cleanliness subscore against Booking.com's own published floor of 6.0 out of 10, since the headline Guest Review Score is a blended average of guests' overall 1-to-10 ratings over the past three years and does not report cleanliness on its own. Long Weekend Haus operates Long Weekend Haus DDP, a 12-room stay in Seoul's Jung-gu priced from ₩306,000 a night on the flexible rate plan (checked 2026-09-19), and its own rating record sits on Trip.com instead of Booking.com, which is a useful case for showing how the same cleanliness-vetting method applies across platforms.
Because Booking.com's overall score and its six category subscores (staff, facilities, cleanliness, comfort, location, value) are submitted independently, a listing can carry a high overall number while its cleanliness subscore lags. Reading the written comments underneath a low cleanliness subscore, and weighting the most recent reviews more heavily, catches problems that a single number hides.
Booking.com Guest Review Scores
Booking.com's Guest Review Score adds up every review score a property has received and divides by the count, then averages that figure over the trailing 36 months, so a property's number reflects three years of guest experience rather than a single season. Guests rate their stay from 1 to 10 as the only mandatory question, and can separately score cleanliness, comfort, location, facilities, staff and value for money, each on the same 1-to-10 scale, with no arithmetic link back to the overall figure. Since January 2025 the system has weighted reviews so that a more recent score moves the total more than an older one, which means a cleanliness problem that started this year will show up in the number faster than one from three years ago. Booking.com's own partner documentation sets a floor of 6.0 for the cleanliness subscore as a condition for a property to qualify for its separate quality rating; a property whose cleanliness subscore falls under 6.0 out of 10 on a sustained basis risks being de-ranked in search results, and in repeated cases de-listed, under clause 7.3(VIII) of Booking.com's General Delivery Terms. On the Seoul search results page the Review score filter itself runs Wonderful (9+), Very Good (8+), Good (7+) and Pleasant (6+), and setting that filter before opening any single property page removes most of the low-cleanliness listings before you start reading.
TripAdvisor Hotel Reviews
TripAdvisor Hotel Reviews draw from a separate pool of guests than Booking.com, so a Seoul property's TripAdvisor comments and traveler photos work as an independent check on whatever cleanliness subscore Booking.com shows for the same address. TripAdvisor reviews are attached to guest-uploaded photos more consistently than Booking.com's, which lets a reader see stained linens, bathroom wear or a dusty room directly instead of inferring it from a number. TripAdvisor does not publish a Booking.com-style numeric cleanliness subscore floor, and its review volume for a given Seoul property is often smaller than Booking.com's, so a single bad TripAdvisor review adds more weight to its overall picture than the same review would on a larger platform.
Agoda Guest Reviews
Agoda Guest Reviews is the comparison point most relevant in Seoul specifically, since Agoda handles a heavy share of Asia-region hotel and apartment bookings, and 95% of travelers report reading guest reviews before choosing where to stay. Agoda publishes its own property-level cleanliness rating, separate from Booking.com's, so pulling up the same Seoul property on both platforms and comparing the two cleanliness figures shows whether a low score is a platform-wide pattern or a quirk of one review pool. Agoda does not disclose a minimum cleanliness threshold comparable to Booking.com's 6.0 quality-rating floor, so a property can sit below that line on Agoda without any visible ranking consequence there.
Google Maps Reviews
Google Maps Reviews attaches timestamped photos to individual reviews more reliably than either Booking.com or Agoda, which means a Seoul property with a suspiciously high overall score can still be checked against recent guest photos for visible dust, mold or wear. Google does not break its star rating into the six named categories Booking.com uses, so there is no separate cleanliness figure to read on Google, only the overall star average and whatever a reviewer chooses to write or photograph. That makes Google Maps a photo-verification layer on top of Booking.com's cleanliness subscore instead of a second numeric score to compare against it.
Hotels.com Verified Reviews
Hotels.com Verified Reviews restricts its review pool to guests who booked and stayed through the platform, giving a third independent source for the same Seoul property once Booking.com and Agoda have been checked. Hotels.com rates six aspects on a 1-to-10 scale, cleanliness among them, and averages them into the guest's overall score, mirroring Booking.com's category structure closely enough that the two cleanliness figures can be set side by side. Hotels.com also runs a quality rating built by machine learning from average review scores, subscores such as cleanliness, and historical booking data, producing a 1-to-5 badge that sits alongside the numeric review score on a property's page.
Long Weekend Haus DDP
Long Weekend Haus DDP sits at 15-3 Ssangnim-dong, Jung-gu, twelve rooms across seven suite types, numbered 101 through 702, with a self check-in kiosk that suits a late arrival into Seoul without waiting on front-desk hours. Its published rating record is on Trip.com, at 9.5 out of 10 from 66 reviews (checked 2026-09-14), instead of on Booking.com, so the filter method described above for Booking.com listings does not apply directly to it; a reader who wants the same cleanliness-vetting discipline for this property would instead cross-check the Trip.com aggregate against TripAdvisor, Agoda, Google Maps or Hotels.com reviews for the same address, following the identical logic of comparing an overall figure against independent, category-specific or photo-based sources. Two couples traveling together fit the Dining Suite (sleeps 2, max 4, two bedrooms, 35 square meters) or the Maru Suite (sleeps 3, max 6, two bedrooms, 44 square meters), and a group of four to eight fits the 702 Penthouse (sleeps 4, max 8, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, 69 square meters). Rooms are priced from ₩306,000 a night on the non-refundable rate or ₩341,000 on the flexible rate with free cancellation up to 14 days before check-in (site-published, observed 2026-09-19), and a stay of three nights or more adds a 10% discount on top of that starting rate. Extra guests beyond a room's base occupancy add ₩10,000 per person per night, and every room stays non-smoking with free WiFi included. Booking runs through stay.longweekendhaus.com as well as Trip.com.
Evidence and criteria
- Guest Review Score calculation: sum of all guest scores (1-10 scale) divided by the count, averaged over the trailing 36 months (Booking.com guest reviews standards, checked 2026-09-14).
- Weighted review system: recent reviews carry more weight in the total score calculation, in effect since January 2025 (Booking.com, checked 2026-09-14).
- Six subscore categories: staff, facilities, cleanliness, comfort, location, value, each rated 1-10 and submitted independently of the overall score (Booking.com for Partners, checked 2026-09-14).
- Minimum cleanliness threshold: 6.0 out of 10 required for quality-rating eligibility; sustained scores below that risk de-ranking or de-listing under clause 7.3(VIII) of Booking.com's General Delivery Terms (Booking.com for Partners; Rental Scale-Up, checked 2026-09-14).
- Review score filter bands on Seoul search pages: Wonderful 9+, Very Good 8+, Good 7+, Pleasant 6+ (Booking.com, checked 2026-09-14).
- Long Weekend Haus DDP's published aggregate: 9.5 out of 10 from 66 reviews on Trip.com (checked 2026-09-14).
